The steamboat is served on a metal pot atop a mini gas stove. The stall sells the usual offerings of pork rib or prawn noodles, but here at Wen Wen Pork Rib Big Prawn Mee, have your hotpot filled to the brim with their flavourful broth. The prawn mee broth gives the steamboat an extra oomph that I guarantee you’ll enjoy.

The $50 Seafood Pot comes with a variety of ingredients including crabs, prawns, clams, pigs intestines, pigs tail, pigs skin and pork ribs. If you want more premium ingredients to “glam” up your hotpot, options like baby abalone or crayfish are available (Just remember to call and check if these items are in stock).

With coconuts adorning it’s signboard, Chicken Legend serves steamboat with (yup, you guessed it) coconut water. You’re probably thinking it’s a weird combination and that you’d much rather have it as a drink than as the base of your steamboat but you’ll never know till you’ve tried right?

Pure coconut water is extracted fresh from the coconut and poured straight into your hotpot without any additives, sweeteners or flavouring. Pay only $20 for a small set, which serves around one to two people, featuring half of their recommended kampung chicken. (After all, the store’s called Chicken Legend)

Don’t chicken out and try other sets including the meat set (beef, pork, and prawns) or the seafood set (salmon, dory, scallop, mussels and prawns). Unlike the usual Lok Lok we’re familiar with eating in Malaysia, a dish that is usually cooked in front of you, Hock Leng lets adopts a Do-It-Yourself style here where you can choose which skewer you wish to cook. By doing so, the ingredients remain hot when you are eating it.

The sticks are sold by sets, based on the number of people dining so expect a wide array of ingredients with $15 being the minimum. If you’re around the Queensway area, pop by Alexandra Village Food Centre to try this mini steamboat. Select one of their sets, be it lamb, beef, pork or yong tau foo followed by the broth (including local favourites like laksa and tom yam apart from the typical chicken/pork broths) and enjoy your hotpot at only $7.90.

The portions served are fairly generous and pair well with the flavourful broths that the stall serves. Each set serves one, so get an entire pot of soup and platter of ingredients all for yourself.
